GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Fees & Finance

Secondary Teacher Training

If you are training to teach on the SCITT Core (self-funded) route, the course tuition fees can be paid in the following ways:

  • Independently via private finance
  • Tuition fee loans: loans may be available (subject to eligibility) to cover the course costs. Applications can also be made for a Maintenance Loan to help towards living costs. Trainees can apply for a loan even if they already have one; taking out a further loan for teacher training will not affect monthly repayments.  Loans are determined by the Student Loans Company. Please click here for further information.
  • Tax free bursaries or scholarships: High demand secondary subjects attract a bursary or scholarship which trainees can apply for. Availability is dependent on the highest relevant academic award and the ITT subject. To receive a bursary or scholarship, trainees must be entitled to support under the Student Finance England criteria as either a home or EU student. Applicants with a degree from outside the UK will need to check their eligibility for a bursary. Get into Teaching will also provide guidance on equivalent qualifications. Trainees can apply for a Student Tuition Fee Loan as well as a bursary. Bursary payments are made from the end of October for 10 consecutive months over the duration of the course. Note: If your degree is not Honours standard or equivalent, you will not be eligible for a bursary.

The following bursaries and scholarships were in place for the 2022/23 programme.  The DFE will be announcing the bursary amounts for 2023/24 shortly so they are still to be confirmed.

Subject  Bursary Amount Scholarship Amount
Chemistry £24,000 £26,000
Computing £24,000 £26,000
Maths £24,000 £26,000
Physics £24,000 £26,000
Languages £10,000 N/A
Biology £7,000 N/A

To be eligible for a bursary you must hold a 1st, 2.1, 2.2, MA or PhD. There are no bursaries or scholarships available for any other subjects.

Scholarships: Graduates with a 2:1 and above can apply for a scholarship with the appropriate professional body. As well as the financial award, scholars will receive a package of additional benefits provided by the professional bodies.  Trainees with a 2:2 may be awarded a scholarship in exceptional circumstances if they have significant relevant experience.  Trainees awarded a scholarship cannot also receive a bursary. Trainees who are not awarded a scholarship may be eligible for a bursary, if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Please click here for further information on scholarships Extra financial support may be available if you are a parent, have an adult dependant or a disability. This is available to all eligible trainees, regardless of the subject being taught. Please refer to the following link for further information:

Get into Teaching

There are limited opportunities for a salary placement.  If you are offered a place on our School Direct salaried route, trainees are employed as an unqualified teacher and paid a salary by the school in which they train, in-line with the unqualified teacher pay scale. Trainees do not need to pay fees to cover the cost of the programme and they are not eligible for a training bursary.  Salaried trainees are responsible for meeting the costs of the PGCE uplift, if taken, and cannot apply for a tuition fee loan to support this.

Primary Teacher Training

If you are training to teach on the SCITT Core (self-funded) route, the course tuition fees can be paid in the following ways:

  • Independently via private finance
  • Tuition fee loans: loans may be available (subject to eligibility) to cover the course costs. Applications can also be made for a Maintenance Loan to help towards living costs. Trainees can apply for a loan even if they already have one; taking out a further loan for teacher training will not affect monthly repayments.  Loans are determined by the Student Loans Company. Please click here for further information.

Currently, we are not offering the School Direct salaried route for the primary route.
