The Interview Process
Once references have been completed, applications are automatically sent through to our team. Once we have received your details we will check that you meet the qualification eligibility criteria and that you demonstrate the drive for and commitment to teaching that we are looking for in your personal statement.
If successful, you will be invited for an interview. Interview locations and dates can vary,
however, they will mainly be online this year due to the pandemic and school restrictions on visitors. Online or face to face interviews will consist of:
- a formal interview, with members of the SCITT Leadership Team
- a presentation to the interview panel
- a lesson planning exercise
- a teaching activity or review of a teaching activity
- a written exercise
- activities to test literacy and numeracy
- a subject knowledge test, GCSE level (secondary only)
Both primary and secondary teacher training applicants will be assessed for their suitability to train to teach. We are looking for a broad knowledge of subject, commitment and preparation, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), an insight into classroom management techniques, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people.
Successful candidates will be given a conditional offer which will be subject to DBS and health checks and evidence of qualifications etc.
Detailed verbal feedback is provided to all interviewees following this process.
